  • Foundations of Math 110
  • Biology 112
  • English 122

Course Descriptions:

The Foundations of Math 110 provides a pathway designed for entry into most academic programs. You will develop logical reasoning skills and apply this to proofs and problems involving angles and triangles, the sine law and the cosine law. You will also model and solve problems involving systems of linear inequality in two variables and explore characteristics of quadratic functions. Costs and benefits of renting, leasing and buying are explored and investment portfolios are analyzed.

Biology 112 explores the unity and the diversity among living things. In Biology 11, you study the cell as the basic unit of life and the diversity of organisms that make up the world’s ecosystems. You will also study some of the systems that allow organisms to interact with the outside environment. You will investigate the impact of biology and technology on society and the impact of human activities on the natural world.

English 122 begins with an introduction to four literary theories or perspectives from which to view texts. The course concludes with a research module in which you will look at what makes good essay, how to narrow a topic focus, how to plan research so it is targeted, how to evaluate and cite sources, and how to choose quotations so you will have an impact with your words. Woven throughout the course is a required independent reading component. You will choose texts and submit a weekly journal report of your reading experiences.
