Moncton, New Brunswick – May 6, 2024
Oulton College is excited to announce a new accelerated three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program starting in the 2024-2025 academic year.
This accelerated program will be the first degree program to be offered by a college in New Brunswick.
Oulton President Darcie Reidpath said the program is designed to expedite the journey of students into the nursing profession. It will offer a swift entry into the healthcare workforce, significantly ahead of the traditional four-year nursing education trajectory.
“Oulton College has always been at the forefront of innovative education in healthcare,” Reidpath stressed. “Our new BScN program is a testament to our commitment to preparing the next generation of nursing leaders.”
The Oulton degree program with its three-year structure is specifically tailored to prepare aspiring nurses with the knowledge and skills required in a condensed timeframe. It will address the critical demand for nursing professionals in our healthcare system.
New Brunswick Health Minister Bruce Fitch congratulated Oulton on reaching a new milestone with the introduction of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
“Having more opportunities to train in New Brunswick helps ensure our province will have access to qualified healthcare workers for decades to come,” Fitch said.
Emphasizing practical knowledge, the program will offer more than 1,700 hours of hands-on experience, including a substantial 1,300+ hours dedicated to clinical settings. This will ensure students are not just academically prepared, but also deeply experienced in real-world nursing scenarios.
Oulton College takes pride in its team of seasoned educators who bring a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise to the classroom. Their dedication to fostering a rigorous academic environment ensures that graduates are fully equipped to tackle the challenges of modern healthcare.
“With an emphasis on clinical excellence and practical exposure, our BScN program ensures that students graduate as highly competent, compassionate, and confident nursing professionals ready to make a significant impact,” said Sherri Rudolph, director of nursing at Oulton College.
Founded in 1956, Oulton College offers an intimate learning atmosphere highlighted by small class sizes and personalized instruction. Becoming the first college to offer a degree program builds on Oulton’s pioneering status and not only elevates its profile but reinforces its commitment to providing top-tier education.
“Each classroom session here is more than just a lecture,” Reidpath added. “It’s a gateway to becoming a part of a close-knit educational family where learning outcomes soar, and support is abundant.”
As Oulton College graduates, students are not just stepping into the world of healthcare; they are fully prepared to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, transitioning into their roles as registered nursing professionals with confidence and competence.
