The Value of Oulton College's Policing and Corrections Program: How it Provides the Skills and Knowledge Necessary for Success in the Field
Oulton College’s Policing and Corrections Foundations program can help you build a foundation for a career in law enforcement or correctional officer. The program provides valuable skills and knowledge that will enhance your career prospects in law enforcement or corrections. You will be exposed to techniques and special equipment used by law enforcement professionals and correctional officers.
The Oulton College Policing and Corrections Program is a 15-month diploma program with a 12-week practicum intended to provide valuable skills and knowledge. The program is designed to give you an advantage in the job market, by equipping graduates with the fundamental know-how needed for success as well as providing opportunities for networking and practical experience on-site at private security companies or correctional facilities. You will work with career services to get placed in an environment that you enjoy and preferably want a career in.
While Oulton College lays the foundation for individuals aspiring to become RCMP officers, it is not a guarantee of acceptance into the RCMP without the completion of the necessary application process. However, this allows you the opportunity to work within the field and gain valuable experience while completing the RCMP application. The RCMP is a federal police force that has jurisdiction across Canada and is unique in that it’s one of only two police forces in Canada (the other being Ontario Provincial Police) with national jurisdiction. This means that once you have completed your training at Oulton College, you will have to apply to be able to enforce laws and regulations throughout all provinces and territories within Canada.
The Policing and Corrections Foundation Program provides hands-on practical experience and training that will help you develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary for success in this field. You will be exposed to techniques and special equipment used by law enforcement professionals and correctional officers.
The program is a comprehensive curriculum that covers some of the following topics and more:
Criminology
Emergency Responses
Search Warrants
Forensics
Self-defence
Powers of Arrest
Arrest and Control Techniques
Correctional Operations
The Oulton College Policing and Corrections program provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to be successful in their careers. If you are interested in a career in law enforcement or corrections, book a meeting with one of our admission advisors to get your application started.
