Land acknowledgement
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather today is the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Peoples. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown of King George I in 1725. These treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources. Instead, they recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastiqiyik title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship of peace, friendship, and mutual respect between nations, and between nations whose modes of life, spirituality, and use of land were very different.
Our story is one of educating people to engage fully in an ever-changing job market.
Since our origin as Oulton’s Business College in 1956, we have built on a tradition of relevance and excellence.
Oulton College was founded by Gordon A. Oulton. Armed with a forward vision and a modest staff, he set out to teach the 80 students registered for courses in the early years of the college.
Early courses were designed to meet an urgent shortage of certain skills in the labour market.
Within only a few short years, the College became well established and earned a reputation for quality. Rapid growth soon followed. The College was unique in two ways, both of which carry through to this day.
- First, students applying are considered on many levels. Prior academic performance is not the only deciding factor. All students interested in attending Oulton College are invited to personal interviews with one of our Admissions Advisors to ensure that what is offered is compatible with their goals.
- Secondly, all of our instructors have expertise in their field and most importantly have a passion for their profession and their students!
This formula continues to make Oulton College graduates job-ready and eager to take on new challenges.
Today, with over 700 students and growing, Oulton remains a leader in career training and the College’s new modern campus provides a solid foundation for its future.
