Course Descriptions:
Spelling, pronunciation and meanings of medical terminology are taught in this course. The identification of a
medical word through structural analysis (prefixes, root words, and suffixes) also is taught. This course includes an
overview of anatomy and physiology, which is learned while studying each body system. Simple, non-technical
explanation of medical terms is incorporated with descriptions of anatomy, physiology, and pathology (no
previous knowledge of biology is presumed or needed). The student becomes familiar with clinical procedures,
laboratory tests, and abbreviations related to each body system and other specialized areas of
medicine

This aspect of the Medical Office Administration Program places emphasis on proper keyboarding techniques and mastery of the keyboard. Emphasis is also placed on speed and accuracy by the development of skills in typing a variety of medical documents.
This course prepares students for careers in medical office administration by covering essential skills and knowledge. Key areas of focus include ensuring patient confidentiality, efficient appointment scheduling, and understanding medical ethics. Students will develop communication skills for managing calls and learn records management practices, including the creation and disposal of medical charts.
Role of a Medical Administrator/Ward Clerk is introduced, including basic pharmacology, medication classifications, and drug reference materials. Students will learn about patient charts, Kardex systems, and Meditech principles, preparing them for various administrative roles in healthcare.
The medical office administration student learns to use modern transcription equipment and will develop speed and accuracy during medical transcription. Transcription skills, retention skills, proof- reading/editing medical reports, and the ability to follow oral instructions are practiced. Emphasis is focused on accuracy and speed.
The student will learn to efficiently transcribe and create appropriate medical documents such as: history and physical reports, consultations, chart/progress notes, X-ray reports, operative reports, and business letters.
The student will receive comprehensive education and training in the application of charting, tooth numbering systems, dental terminology, types of dental treatment, dental specialties and complete dental insurance details.
Emphasis in this area is placed on giving the student competence in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software, which is becoming the software of choice for most of today’s medical offices. The student becomes familiar with the operation of Microsoft’s latest office software Office 2013, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The student also learns to use E-mail to communicate productively and the Internet as an effective office administration tool.
This course covers the most important rules of medical grammar, punctuation, capitalization and writing numbers. Students will test their understanding by completing exercises correlating to every rule and subject covered in the module. This medical office administration course is designed to enhance the confidence of the student, as to the mastery of the rules of English grammar and punctuation.
This course enables students to apply their knowledge in a simulated classroom and office environment. Through lectures, activities, and role-playing, they will learn about patient de-escalation, empathy, and compassion while working with simulated patient registrations, order entry systems, and communication tools. Students will also familiarize themselves with hospital triage and emergency codes, billing procedures, and the roles of healthcare professionals.
By simulating real-world scenarios in various healthcare settings, students will gain the confidence and skills needed to handle everyday situations as Medical Office Administrators.
This office administration course equips students with essential skills in Sage 50 Accounting, focusing on everyday computerized accounting processes such as general ledger transactions, receivables, payables, payroll, and bank reconciliations. Through step-by-step guidance, students will learn to analyze, record, and process accounting transactions while fostering a positive environment that promotes ethical and professional conduct in office, clinic, and hospital settings.
