Luxury Branding & Innovation: Guest Lecture at Oulton College
On Monday, Oulton College students had the opportunity to explore the evolving world of luxury through an engaging guest lecture by Julien Jans, a Paris-based entrepreneur and the founder of the luxury brand Wagram Leather. With a strong background in luxury advocacy and brand building, Julien offered valuable insight for our Business Management students, into both the heritage and the future of the luxury industry.
A key focus of the session was the new era of luxury, where traditional notions of exclusivity are being reshaped by changing consumer values, digital influence, and a growing demand for authenticity and purpose. Julien emphasized that while innovation is essential, the foundations of luxury remain rooted in strong pillars of heritage like craftsmanship, storytelling, authenticity, and timeless design. These pillars, he explained, are what give luxury brands their lasting value and credibility.
Understanding the Modern Luxury Consumer
The lecture also introduced students to the new faces of fortune, highlighting four distinct luxury consumer profiles that define today’s market. By breaking down these consumer segments, Julien helped students understand how motivations, lifestyles, and expectations differ across audiences and why modern luxury brands must adapt their marketing strategies accordingly.
What made the lecture especially impactful was its highly interactive format. Through games, real-time discussions, and audience participation, students were actively involved throughout the session. The presentation visuals were particularly striking, helping to illustrate complex ideas and elevate the overall experience.
Overall, the lecture was insightful, dynamic, and thought-provoking. Oulton College’s business students found the session both educational and engaging, gaining a clearer understanding of luxury as a consumer-driven, evolving industry, one that balances heritage with innovation in an ever-changing global landscape.
