New Intakes for In-Demand Programs at Oulton College
Oulton College is excited to announce expanded intake options for two of its most in-demand programs: Early Childhood Education / Educational Assistant (ECE/EA) and Policing & Corrections Foundations. These changes are part of the college’s continued effort to improve flexibility for students and accelerate pathways into the workforce — especially in sectors experiencing significant staffing shortages across New Brunswick and the Maritimes.
More Flexible Start Dates for ECE/EA and Policing Programs
Starting in 2026, students pursuing Early Childhood Education / Educational Assistant training will be able to begin their studies in January instead of March. A brand-new May intake is also being introduced, making it even easier to align education plans with personal schedules, high school graduation, or mid-year career changes.
For those interested in careers in law enforcement or public safety, the Policing & Corrections Foundations program will offer a new January start date, in addition to the traditional September intake. These extra cohorts significantly reduce wait times, allowing students to start sooner and graduate faster — a major advantage in today’s fast-paced job market.
As Robin Lathangue, Oulton College’s Vice President (Academic), explains, “We know that time-to-market is a key factor in the decision to enter college. These additional entry points are designed to address that concern.”
Meeting the Growing Demand for Skilled Professionals
The decision to add new intakes is driven by a clear need in the community. Schools, child care centres, and correctional facilities across New Brunswick continue to face staffing shortages, and the demand for trained professionals in early childhood education, public safety, and corrections remains high. By offering more frequent access to these programs, Oulton College is helping bridge the gap between skilled graduates and workforce needs.
Inside the Early Childhood Education / Educational Assistant Program
The ECE/EA program at Oulton College blends classroom learning with hands-on, practical training. Students develop a strong foundation in child development, inclusive education, communication, and leadership within early learning environments. The program also includes a supervised 8-week practicum, giving students direct experience in real-world settings such as classrooms, daycare centers, and early learning facilities.
Elizabeth Pederson, Education Manager of Traditional Programs, shared, “I’m delighted to expand our options, making it easier for students to begin their programs without delay. The need for dedicated educators in our communities is growing, and we want to give students quick access to the training they need.”
What Makes Policing & Corrections at Oulton Stand Out
Oulton College’s Policing & Corrections Foundations program offers a career-focused curriculum that combines academic instruction with practical, real-life training. Students engage in scenario-based simulations, physical fitness development, and interactive sessions led by law enforcement and corrections professionals. Before graduation, each student completes a 420-hour practicum, building confidence and skills in actual work environments.
This program is ideal for anyone looking to start a career in policing, security services, or correctional facilities across New Brunswick or the broader Atlantic region.
