Oulton College Celebrates Inaugural Bachelor of Science in Nursing Class:

Addressing Critical Nursing Shortage

Moncton, NB, February 25, 2025 – Oulton College is thrilled to announce a special event celebrating a historic milestone: the dedication of its first-ever Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) class. This momentous occasion marks the completion of the first term for the inaugural cohort of the program, a significant step in addressing the critical nursing shortage in New Brunswick. The celebration will take the form of a celebratory reception with students, faculty, and distinguished guests.

A Timely and Critical Initiative

New Brunswick faces a significant need for registered nurses, with a “very good” employment outlook projected for the next three years (2024-2026), according to provincial job market forecasts. The province projects nearly 1,500 job openings for registered nurses over the next three years, with over 700 of those due to new job creation. Increased demand for healthcare services, driven by an aging and growing population, coupled with ongoing shortages, means that graduates of Oulton College’s BScN program will be well-positioned for success. These nurses will be prepared to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, doctors’ offices, community agencies, and more, contributing to the overall health and well-being of New Brunswickers. Furthermore, registered nurses working in underserved rural or remote communities may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness, and those working with the regional health authorities or EM/ANB may qualify for incentives.

Oulton College's BScN Program: Preparing Future Healthcare Leaders:

Oulton College launched its accelerated three-year BScN program in September 2024, responding directly to the province’s healthcare needs. This program builds on Oulton’s successful history in nursing education, which includes graduating over 400 students from its Licensed Practical Nursing program since 2012. The BScN program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the demanding and rewarding field of nursing.
